The Many Deaths of the Firefly Brothers - Thomas Mullen Great conceit, rife with potential for narrative drive and sociopolitical subtext. Why didn't it really fly for me, then? The prose seemed overstuffed yet unacrobatic; the characters' (and narrative) wit seemed a little forced.... and so on. By no means a bad novel, yet its gears never meshed, never began spinning smoothly and propelling me along.
