The brief critical essays on history and context don't do much for me--overreliant on the (more effective/expansive) history by David Hajdu, or on Northrop Frye (who I love, but...), or on familiar and thin psychological or cultural analyses....But man these pictures! There are a few full stories included, but I just adored paging through the lurid, gory, glorious, full-page and full-color covers. E.g.,
